defenseless hair. Not always, but most of the time. Especially when dealing with bleach like I had previously, when I decided to dye my hair turquoise.
I'm not a salon person. I've had bad experiences with salons either chopping off too much hair or dying my hair a completely wrong color. I just prefer to do everything at my house - also it tends to be cheaper - but sometimes my hair pays deeply. I do my part in trying to maintain it's moisture and health after all the damage that I put it through, but I will admit it's been hard finding a good hair regimen, that won't cost me an arm and a leg. I mean, this whole "DIY" approach is supposed to be "budget friendly" right?!
After many trials trying to find something that I could afford, but wouldn't kill my hair, I've finally found a few things that make my hair happy!
Now this post is about hair care and how I go about restoring the damage that I've done. I won't be mentioning any "managing" tips - i.e. hairspray's, dry shampoo's, heat protecting products, but if you're interested in any of that, I'm more than happy to do a post about it!
Everything I found was at Bed, Bath and Beyond, because I was able to stack multiple 20% off coupons, for each item I bought. So each individual item was 20% off! (P.S. You can use expired coupons from BBB, hence why I had a few).
The first pair of helpful hair friends, are my shampoo and conditioner. These are absolutely fantastic and I am IN LOVE with them. They are from the brand Ogx and mine are the "quenching + sea mineral moisture" shampoo and conditioner. Oh my gosh you guys. For starters, it's a freaking turquoise bottle with turquoise product inside. Of course I had to try it, but the reason why I kept them was because of the amazing moisture it truly does put back into my hair! Even the shampoo makes my hair feel moisturized after I rinse it out. The smell is intoxicating and I can't get enough of this duo. They truly do live up to their name is repairing my dry hair. I've noticed a significant difference after using them - best results showed up about a week after purchase, then they continued to moisture from then on out. I've heard numerous good things from this company and a while back I had used to coconut one, but so far this is my absolute favorite! I've smelled the others, but this one sends me into a shower utopia. Also, at BBB they had a special sale going on, where instead of paying $5.99 for a small bottle, you could pay the same price for double the size! With two 20% off coupons for each bottle, I was more than happy to scoop these babies up.
My next favorite is a hair treatment. I had been looking high and low for a product that would
really work itself into my hair, without leaving it disgustingly greasy. I've tried the coconut trick a while back - see that post HERE - but it seemed like the moisture wouldn't last very long. This was extremely disappointing to me, but I kept on doing it. So much so, that the smell of coconut started to sicken me. After browsing BBB, I came across the brand "One n' Only". I remember my mom had used this brand a while back, but if I recall correctly she only used the oil for when she straightened her hair - to reduce any potential frizz. I also remember her hair looking flawless whenever she used this brand, so I decided to peak at their repairing treatments. I found this one on sale (normally $12.99 down to $6.99) and looked up a few reviews. It's called the "Restorative Mask" with oils from Moroccan Argan Trees. I heard mixed reviews about this one, but I really didn't want to go pay for the "It's a 10" mask - $24.99 - and some said this was an excellent "dupe". The smell is almost of a "musky" scent, but it's nothing bad. I rather like it. When I use this I wash my hair with shampoo, then after rinsing, apply this all over and let it set for 10 - 15 minutes. Once the time is up, I simply rinse it out without shampoo or conditioner. My hair is left de-tangled, smooth, silky, and not at all greasy! Which I was fairly surprised. Normally my hair gravitates to oils and clings to them for dear life. Thankfully though, this doesn't happen with the mask. While I don't think it's a huge score for me, I would definitely recommend trying this one out for dry, damaged hair!

My last hair care product, is a leave-in conditioner. This one isn't an absolutely astounding product that I recommend for everyone, but I do think it's worth checking out if you have dry, damaged, curly/wavy hair and it tends to get oily. I've tried other leave-in conditioners and they always make my hair look like a "greaser's" no matter how little I use. The one I'm using is called "Triple Nutrition Curl Nourish Butter Cream" by Garnier Frucits. This hasn't given me the "grease lightning" hair, once (I'm trying to leave that hairstyle to John Travolta and the gang). I adore the scent - almost like a creamy, mild, honey butter, perfume smell. It smells SO good without being overwhelming, and it definitely helps my waves - and hair in general - feel good all day long. I always use this, regardless if I'm straightening my hair or not. I feel like any protection, is good protection. When I don't straighten my hair, my curls are bouncy, soft, silky, and look really smooth! I do have light frizz, but I've never had un-frizzed hair, so I'm not too worried about it. It only cost me $3.99 - plus I had another 20% off - at BBB.
That leads me to my next comment. If you guys know of any de-frizzers or leave-in conditioners that act as a de-frizzer as well, please let me know!
Time for lip care!
My lips are always freaking dry. It doesn't matter if it's summer, winter, fall, or spring. My lips are never satisfied. I'm constantly trying to maintain their moisture - what's with my hair and lips teaming up against me??? - but I've found that chapstick alone doesn't help. (FYI, I only use Carmax chapstick, but I didn't include it's photo. Just thought I'd share that with you all now.) So in order to combat overly dry, cracked, and peeling lips, I found that I have to exfoliate in the morning and night, while sticking to particular lipsticks during the day.
You may have seen this "lip exfoliator" all over magazines, being praised for it's excellence. Well I'm here to tell you that it's all true! Ever single kind word about this product, has proven itself to be an unjust compliment. It's literally thee best product for my lips to date and it's only $3! It's just simply the E.L.F. cosmetic's lip exfoliator in clear. I pray to the makeup Gods, that this product never goes out of stock or gets discontinued. It smells good, it feels good, it works amazingly, it's pure perfection! When you first buy it, the waxy coat over it makes it feel extremely smooth and you may be wondering how the heck it's going to exfoliate your lips. That's because it won't. Keep rubbing - it's extremely creamy so don't worry - and within a few wipes on your lips, you'll find yourself getting to the good stuff. It's not a really abrasive scrub - so long as you don't rub really hard on your precious lips - but it gets the job done. When you rinse off the scrub - it's almost like a brown sugar smell and feel - you're left with outrageously smooth, silky lips. Perfect for applying a gorgeous lippie. Which brings me to my favorite lipstick of all time!
The "E.L.F. beautifully bare satin lipstick". I just picked this up for a measly $5 and I can't begin to describe how rich this feels on my lips. It's like having whipped cream all over your lips, with an awesome tint. I LOOOOVE putting this all over for daytime - they have other colors, but I chose "a touch of nude". It's perfect for the hot sun or cold days, because it doesn't dry out my lips or fade very easy. Also, it's gorgeous on a wide array of skin tones. I've seen this particular shade on so many women and I haven't seen one person look "odd" with it on. You can find these lipsticks on their website, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, and Walmart. Perhaps other places as well, but those are the only ones I've found them at.
And there you have it guys! My favorite hair care and lip care products! If you guys want to see the products I use when styling my hair or "maintain" it throughout the day, just let me know and I will happily make a post about them! Love you all and I hope your weekend was absolutely rockin' just like all of you!!!
