I'm not this huge lover of Trader Joe's beauty products, but I don't dislike them either. When I tested out their shampoo and conditioner, I was left with extremely dry hair. I literally felt like I washed with dish soap, it was THAT bad. However, I used their body scrub and consider it to be one of the best I've ever used. Seeing as how I've experienced hits and misses, I didn't want to consider Trader Joe's a complete dud in the beauty department.

Every time I would see the Trader Joe's face lotion, I would precariously pick up the bottle and scan it over, debating whether or not I wanted to actually take the plunge. It's cost was in a really great range - $3.99 - and it had all the words I was looking for -non greasy, vitamins, uva protection, does not clog pores, fragrance free - so I put it in my cart for a possible purchase.
After going on with my regular grocery shopping, I headed back to the beauty aisle and decided that I would make a final decision on whether or not to purchase the face lotion or leave it behind for good. I did notice they had an antioxidant face lotion, but in the past antioxidant lotions have broken out my skin, so that wasn't even on my radar. But this...this was. For quite a while in face. I needed a lotion, I could return it if the worst happened, and I had nothing to loose - except maybe my clear skin. So I bought it.
I've used this product by itself and with makeup. On a hot day and a cold day. With full faced makeup and a simple look. This is what happened.
First let me tell you that when they say fragrance free, they mean that the only thing you're going to smell is a light whiff of plain lotion and a hint of pleasant sunscreen. Once you put it on, you don't smell anything. It's extremely light - just as the bottle describes it - and it creates an extremely smooth base on your face. I was impressed from the first pump.
When I tested it out on a hot day - the days that I almost always end up looking like a fry vat - I was shocked. I didn't look like the floor of McDonalds after a lunch rush, I didn't look like I left the gym without wiping my face, and I didn't have a glimmer of oil ANYWHERE. This was only half the battle. The final and most important test - seeing as how I bought it for the purpose of using with makeup - came the next day.
I scrubbed my face and put on my lotion. Same as the day before, smooth, light, velvety finish. I put on my foundation. No budging, no odd mixing, no streaks. I put on my powder. Still smooth, still holding. I finished my face. So far, so good.
This day was a mildly hot day, I wore my hair down - when I have hair on my neck, my body heat rises to where I feel like I'm sweating up a storm - and I wore regular clothes - no workout clothes. I pulled out all the stops and actually attempted to do my normal routine, with this additional lotion on my face, not knowing if it would let me down.
In the end, it had my back. All. Day. Long.
It didn't budge, I didn't look really oily - only needed one blot during the day, but that's normal for me, I didn't have any weird separation on my face. I have FINALLY found a lotion to stand the test of time and play nice with my makeup AND in the summer time! Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how amazing it feels to have a face lotion that has sunscreen in it, cost so little, and work so well on my face with no issues? Oh and in case you're wondering, I had Z-E-R-O breakouts. None. Zilch. Zip. Nada.
I am in love with this product and I will be buying it again and again. I've been recommending it like crazy, because I truly feel like everyone should give this guy a fair chance. Do I think it will work for absolutely everyone? No, probably not, but I do think if you have dry skin, oily skin, or normal skin - or skin at all - you should pick this product up!
Way to go Trader Joe's! You may have failed me in the hair department, but you have thoroughly redeemed yourself with this face lotion!
For those of you who are interested in the price of the antioxidant face lotion, I believe it was $4.99 or $5.99. I can double check next time I head over there. The one that I used and reviewed today - the enrich moisturizing face lotion - was only $3.99.
Hopefully you'll find a new love in this product, just like I have!
