Presidential Debate, Nachos, and Gummy Bears.

It is so...freaking...hot. I know I probably sound like a whiny blogger since I live in San Diego and haven't experienced 100+ degree on a daily basis, but trust me when I say this is not cool!

I woke up this morning, turned on the TV, and realized that this heat wave was here to stay for a few days. Yay us...

All day my son and I have been wetting our shirts, blasting every fan on us, staying in the shade, and trying to not sweat of our skin. With popsicles in hand, my son and I were trying to decide what we were going to make for today's dinner. With the presidential debate taking place today, we decided to go with some nachos after my mother mentioned she was making some. j

We weren't exactly interested in driving anywhere - although the car's A/C would've been nice - so we just walked nearby to pick up some ingredients. Nothing specifically fancy, but it was extremely easy to make. With some chili, mission cheese sauce, lime chips, and avocados, you'll have a plate of deliciousness in no time. We decided on two different types of chili, due to my son and I's
different taste in beans. Really my son just wanted his very own chili and they were on sale. Either way, I didn't mind.

We also chose to finish off dinner with our favorite mini-dessert. Gummy bears! But not just regular gummy bears, 12 flavored gummy bears. They are so freaking amazing you guys. We get our from Smart and Final in bulk, but you can find them almost anywhere that sells bulk snacks. You know those giant buckets found at Sprouts/Henry's? Those.

Once we got home and downed a crap ton of Gatorade's - because you know, dehydration - we made our nachos and sat down for what we considered social studies. Seeing as how this is a historic moment, we decided to discuss presidency, why we have one, who are current president is, some of the important presidents we have, and why it's important to vote. That's homeschooling for you, taking any type of situation and turning it into a learning experience.

Also, I have to give credit to my mom. She recommended buying the lime chips and said they go great with the chili. She was absolutely right! You have to try it. The hint of lime on the chips gives the entire nacho plate a slight tangy/sour flavor and I am in love. Even my son - who loves lime chips already - was impressed. He gave it a tiny thumbs up with his gorgeous smile.

I'm not going to discuss my political preferences, because I don't want a debate, but I will say that this has been a very informative 1st debate. While the debate didn't sway my opinion one way or the other, I will say that it was really good to see both candidates together without the whole "he said, she said" crap.

When the debate ended, my son gladly accepted a shower and bed. This heat has been literally draining us. Hopefully it won't be too harsh on Thursday. My son and I are heading to his first school field trip to a really cool farm. I don't necessarily want to roast in the heat, but we are excited - and hopeful - nonetheless.

I gotta say guys, I'm really loving the whole homeschooling situation. It is a little challenging at times trying to find the best way to teach a 5 year old, but it's pretty cool when you have a very verbal child. He expresses his interests clearly and will let me know instantly if he gets something or doesn't. These hot days aren't exactly helping us focus, but luckily we used the weather to do science and the debate for social studies. Needless to say, it's really cool.

I think homeschooling has also given me a new perspective on life, because I've started to really awaken to what can be taught. Learning opportunities are all around us, we just have to pay attention. My son has shown so much interest in learning about everything and sometimes I wonder who learns more, me or him.

Luckily the sun has fallen - although the dry heat is still very present - and now I get to shower and rest with my little one, who is currently spread out on a damp bed in front of the fan. Living the good life.

Hopefully you guys have had a good day and a good weekend! What did you guys think of the debate? Did it make you change your mind or are you more convinced in your candidate's abilities to be a president? Let me know in the comments down below!
