Newest Hair Care Products That Will Blow Your Mind!

In the past I've discussed the hair products I've personally used, to try and combat my frizzy and dry hair (thanks hair dye). Back in October I shared with you guys a set of shampoo and conditioner, that was superseding my hopes for shower time hair care. I was beyond thrilled that it not only [seemingly] gave life back to my hair, but it wasn't loosing it's affect over time. Well, things change and hair grows up. After a while, things got to be very...weak.

After a few months of using the cleaning duo, I started to notice that my hair simply wasn't taking kindly to it's [or lack there of] cleaning abilities. It was becoming excessively dry, brittle, frizzy, and overall unmanageable. I was going insane.

You see, my entire life has consisted of mediocre hair products, that work at first only to let me down in a few weeks time. There's never been any pair that's kept my hair looking healthier than ever. That is, until today.

After the downfall of my last shampoo and conditioner, I decided to just start from scratch and try to find a new duo that would hold me over until the next batch. That's when I came across an old favorite I used years ago (during my pregnancy).

The brand is called "Mane 'n Tail" and it's [I suppose] traditionally marketed for horse hair. It's been notoriously known as a product that helps hair grow longer, stronger, and healthier.

During my pregnancy it was my go-to product. Why I drifted from it, really is due to budgeting. I didn't feel my hair care was worth $6 each bottle (for 27.05 fl oz), so I left it behind and didn't look back. Now it seems things have come full circle and I decided to re-test my old friend, with a twist.

This time around, I found that they not only had the original formula, but also a new "Herbal Gro" formula with "Olive Oil complex". I was immediately intrigued, as olive oil is simultaneously attributed to hair growth and replenishing. For the same price as the original, I went ahead and decided to test out this particular bundle.

It's been almost 3 months, since first starting with these two. Normally the average time span of a shampoo or conditioner lasting, is roughly 2 or 3 months, however, I normally see them "go bad" on me around a month and a half. With these two, it hasn't happened.

After the first few uses, I noticed a dramatic change in my hair (again though, I'm a bit skeptical). The shine and strength has improved along with the manageability. The growth of my hair has also taken me by surprise, as it seems to truly have sped the growth progression up.

Within the last few weeks, my hair has stopped breaking off as much, I no longer suffer from dry/itchy scalp, the look of my hair is glowing, and split ends aren't as apparent. That in itself makes me feel extremely happy. But, there is a catch.

I'm thoroughly pleased with my results thus far, but I'm not completely sold. Seeing as how we're coming up to the point where these hair cleaning products traditionally fail on me, I'm not holding my breath that these will stand the test of time.

Nothing has deterred me from re-purchasing them, but I am watching for any signs of my hair growing tired of these two. I will say however, that I really like the fact the portions are pretty well suited for a month's worth of washes (if you wash your hair everyday), plus some.

So as you can see, this products is definitely a miracle (seriously, I'm just happy with how much it's fulfilled my hair fantasies), but because my hair is finicky and can't settle down, I'm going to hold out to see if it will let me down. For now, it's my current obsession and I'm still loving the feeling of my hair when it dries. If there's any changes, I will let you know you beautiful Jedi's!

Until then, may the force be with you all.

Water Delivery Service Review: Sparkletts to the Rescue?

Happy Monday everyone! This weekend has been filled with errands, relaxation, and a recent purchase/subscription from Costco [that I'm currently testing out to see if it will indeed truly save me money] was delivered.

Growing up I'm sure you've known someone - or perhaps your own parents - would have this water jug hoisted upside down on some weird contraption that would magically give us water on demand, with a press of a knob. I know my dad had one, but personally I never have.

Well last week I went to Costco to purchase a few items for the household, when a very intriguing booth caught my eye. It was the Sparkletts water booth and they were doing sign-up's for their water delivery.

Growing up my grandma would always have her water delivered, so I know the added benefit that comes with having giant jugs of water delivered to your doorstep. Seeing as how my padawan and I are avid water drinkers, I thought this might be a really neat money (and time) saver for our household. We buy roughly 18 to 20 gallons of water a month to drink (priced at around $1 per gallon), making it a pain in the butt having to carry that many gallons into the house. I understand that it's "not that hard", but I truly dread that moment.

With this offer from Sparkletts I was going to not only have my water directly delivered monthly, but I was going to be able to save money!

Each jug holds 5 gallons of water and you pay roughly $6 for each gallon that you have in your home. We went for a total of 2 gallons (around $12 a month total) and we're "renting" a brand new water machine for roughly $4 a month, bringing our complete total to roughly $16 plus a cheap delivery fee for water delivered every two weeks. One bill, once a month. No contract either, meaning you can cancel at any time.

Every two weeks the water guy will come by on a set date to check for refills or to pick up any extra jugs you may not need. However many jugs you need refilled, simply place your empty jugs outside on by your front door on delivery day and watch them "magically" be refilled.

At first I was a bit skeptical, because I really didn't want to rent a machine nor purchase my own, but after seeing the machine would allow me to load the water on the bottom of the machine (instead of trying to chuck it upside down) AND it gives me hot water on demand (it's also childproof), I was sold. Another bonus is that if something goes wrong with the machine, Sparkletts will fix/take care of it no problem.

After giving the nice lady my Costco card (so she could fill out my information), I was told that I'd receive a call in a matter of days, so I could set up a time and date when the water guy could deliver my first order. The next day I got a phone call and was told that on Saturday I would have my stuff delivered and set up!

Saturday couldn't come soon enough and I was in high anticipation for this entire set up to be...well, set up.

I'll be honest with you guys, all I could think about is how coffee (I use a French Press, see HERE) and tea will be at my instant beck and call, since the water dispenser gives me instant hot water.

Finally the day came and I saw the Sparkletts truck pull up on my street. I literally squealed with joy, because I was dying to see it. The gentleman came upstairs, loaded up my machine, explained to me how to change out the jugs, showed me where he'd leave the jugs for refill when I'm not home, and told me the exact days when he'd stop by for refills. Within about 10 minutes, we were in business.

Immediately I began to drink from my new machine, basking in the glory of not having to do anything. My fridge isn't stocked with gallons, I don't have gallons of water stored in my closet, I don't have to boil water anymore, and it's automatically cold and delicious. My padawan was really impressed as well, because now he can refill his own water bottle. Which also means once less "demand" from my spawn throughout the day.

After using my [so far] trusty electric water dispenser (kinda freaky if you think about it) for the past two days, I have to say that overall it's been an amazing thing. I will say that I truly feel spoiled right now. The benefits have far outweighed the bad, along with the cost being pretty efficient compared to purchasing bottled or gallons of water from the stores.

The only real downside is that the cost isn't drastically different compared to the price, at least for me. While it does save gas, time, and energy (the hot water thing is still really cool), I do wish it was a little more apparent with how much I save. Regardless, I definitely think it's well worth it!

We've already gone through half a jug of water (yes, it's only been 2 days), but in our defense I think it's because we continuously kept drinking it just because we were super excited to use it. I guess that's a possible bonus as well. You might be encouraged to drink more water.

This machine has made coffee being made in the morning go from 7 minutes (roughly) to about 1 minute with it's instant hot water. It truly is childproof as well, so your little ones can't scold their hands (I would like to recommend that you don't have them stand too close when using the hot water, as sometimes it can splash a little). If you don't want hot water thought - or don't need it - there is a button near where you load the water, that allows you to turn it off altogether.

Now that I've joined the "water dispenser" club, I do feel a little closer to 80 (no offense to anyone, ever), but I also feel efficient and still a bit spoiled. I enjoy every glass from my energy efficient, electric water dispenser and you can bet my padawan does too.

Food Feature Friday #18: Simple Seasonings For Meats Galore.

Food. We either love it, like it, or are obsessed with it. For those blessed we often crave a meal for each part of the day, jam packed with mouthwatering flavor that can't be beat. Sometimes it happens and other times we make due with what we have. Sometimes we even tackle the task of trying to create our own meals at home, leaving all the flavor combinations up to us. While this can be daunting, it can also be exhilarating.

Seasonings play an intricate part in the eating process, either making or breaking the dish your creating - or someone else has made. Problems can arise quickly with seasonings as well: What seasoning should you use for what meat? What about combination herbs and spices? All very good questions and while I'm not exactly a whiz at cooking - although I truly wish to take a cooking class to get better - I do know a thing or two about which spices you can easily go to for different types of meat. So that's what I thought I'd share with all of you! A simple list of simple seasonings you can use for different types of meat dishes!

Some of these I've found after scouring the internet for days, trying to find an inclusive list to use as a guide. I will list all resources and credit at the bottom of this page.

WARNING: This won't include salt or pepper, as they are a little too simple for this list and are pretty versatile.

Bay Leaf: Beef, Chicken, Veal. One of my absolute favorites and tastes really good when using for fajitas.
Chili Powder: Chicken, beef, and MOST fish. Vegetables and stews can also benefit from this flavor. Goes great with oregano and cumin as well.
Coriander: Fish and chicken.
Cumin: Works best when paired with others.
Garlic Powder: Amazing with all meats and [I think] all fish. If you buy garlic powder with salt, be careful when adding additional salt to the dish. Great when used with other spices.
Onion Powder: Meats, chicken, and SOME fish. Again, be careful when adding additional salt to your dish if your onion powder includes salt. Amazing when used in spice blends.
Oregano: Beef and lamb. Also great in cheeses!
Paprika: Fish, chicken, and eggs. Excellent when paired with other spices. A little can go a long way!
Thyme: Beef, fish, lamb, chicken. Beautiful flavor, highly versatile, and plays well with others.
Turmeric: Fish, chicken, and [apparently] duck.

Now while you have a tiny bit more insight into what goes best with what, you may be asking yourself why you would need this if they sell pre-mixed seasonings at the stores for certain meats/dishes.

I know that's an easy opt-out when it comes to making dishes - no shame, I use them too - but perhaps you have a mini garden with herbs and leftover seasonings, or perhaps you're not fond of a particular ingredient in a pre-mixed seasoning, or maybe you prefer to do it completely homemade. Well now you have a little extra knowledge on what goes with what.

Really, this list isn't a comprehensive list that tells you exactly what to use with what meat. There are so many more spices out there in the world, that it can be a little difficult to choose which "special" spice to add. My rules of thumb are this:

- If it has a similar flavor that can easily compliment ALL the other spices/ingredients, go for it.
- If it has salt in it, use less salt in your recipe.
- And when in doubt, smell it out!

If you have the seasonings there in your kitchen, but aren't sure which to mix together, you can always do a mini trial run. Simply add a dash of each ingredient to a small dish and smell the entire blend. You can also taste it (don't put the whole thing in your mouth), to give you a little bit of a better idea on what you're mixing. If it smells or tastes pretty close to the vision you have with the dish you're making, then why not.

Cooking is all about trying new things. I know you don't always want to be adventurous with your food - perhaps for a special day or something - but keep this in mind: the best creations come from mistakes and failure.

Sling TV Review: $20 for Cable or $20 for Crap?

Prior I've talked about how I cut cable by using a streaming device called Roku (You can see my first review HERE and my second review HERE).

In my first review, I briefly discussed a third party style service that offers a "cable" package of sorts, for as low as $20. This service is called "Sling TV" and all it requires of you is a credit card, your choice of cable package, internet and either a smart TV or a streaming device that the Sling TV app coincides with (from what I've seen, it's available on a wide array of devices).

Sling TV offers a few select "cable" packages ranging from $20 to $40 and up. Each package can be altered by adding "add on" bundles to your "plan" ranging between $5 and $15 a bundle. With Sling TV you're able to pay monthly for this service, WITHOUT any sort of contract. This means you can cancel at any time and you won't have to worry about any sort of surcharge. Sling TV gives you live TV for the selected channels within your package, along with on-demand for said channels as well.

The $20 package - being their cheapest offer - will give you about 30 channels to watch from, the $30 package will give you about 40 channels, and the $40 package will give you all the streaming channels Sling TV has to offer.

Along with their package deals, they also have - what I mentioned earlier - bundles that give you additional channels not offered within the packages. There are also different types of bundles. You have "extras", "premiums", "Spanish" and "international".

Extras are bundles that you can choose from, where you're given multiple extra channels. There are Sports Extras (ESPNU, NFL RedZone, NBA TV to name a few), Kids Extras (Disney Junior are among them), along with a few others. These range between $5 and $10.

Premiums add-ons are HBO ($15 extra), Cinemax ($10 extra), and Starz ($9 extra).

Spanish bundles are similar to Extras, where they have different bundles you can choose from to get select Spanish speaking channels, all of which are $5 extra each.

International bundles are - again - similar to the Spanish bundles and the Extras bundles, where you can choose between Hindi Extra (9 extra channels for $5), Chinese Extra (16 extra channels for $5), Arabic Extra (12 extra channels for $10), Brazilian Extra (1 channel for $15), World Music Extra (15 extra channels for $5), Francais Extra (5 extra channels for $5), Italiano Extra (4 extra channels for $10), and Urdu-India Extra (8 extra channels for $10).

Sling TV offers a 7 day free trial period, where you'll only be charged AFTER the trial period ends. You can even cancel before the trial is over, if you find that it's not your exact cup of tea and you don't wish to continue. When doing the trial, you can choose to include SOME add-on's during your trial, but not HBO. Again, you won't be charged until after the trial ends, but please read the fine print to make sure you won't be charged for anything if you're not planning on spending any money!

If you have a credit card, internet, an email, and a streaming device (you could even use it on your computer/laptop or tablet), you'll be ready to sign up.

Personally I've done the trial and before the 7 days were up, I cancelled.

I don't think Sling TV is a bad choice for live television and I certainly think you could benefit from such a cheap package - especially if you're not paying a lot for internet - but for us, it just wasn't worth it. You see, while the program did offer a wide variety of channels that we actually do watch and the concept itself is an awesome one to where you could literally choose the TV you pay for, the quality wasn't equal to the quantity of "products".

Numerous times a channel would buffer, blurry images, stop working in the middle of watching, not allow you to continue watching, skip, or just plain ol' not work. At first I thought it was because we were using it during peak hours - when numerous devices were on wifi - but even late at night with only one device linked to the wifi - the Roku -  streaming wasn't nearly as smooth as I'd had hoped. With so many reboots, waiting, and refreshes, I lost all patience.

I'm sorry if I have to work extra hard to try and enjoy television, I don't want to watch. It makes the entire experience beyond frustrating and when you end up missing half your show because of the app consistently buffering, you lose all interest. Trust me.

I've heard that for some it's far better of a product, but to be honest I've helped friends sign up for it and it still seems to show the same issues. I truly believe that the overall idea is an excellent one, but it needs some tweaking and fine tuning. I do understand that the price is pretty decent, but I don't see the value in something you can't truly enjoy. Even with such a low cost.

Do I think Sling TV is a complete flop? No not necessarily. I think with some fine tuning and perhaps a better wifi connection (don't quote me on that), Sling could live up to it's full potential. Until I can happily watch an episode of ANYTHING on Sling without issues and actually have visible quality, I don't think I'll be re-downloading this app or signing up in the future.

What are your guys' thoughts? Have you tried Sling or any other service resembling this service? If so, let me know down in the comments below or on social media!

Until next time Jedi's, may the force be with you.

Confessions from a McDonald's Employee.

Many people started their working careers at some sort of burger joint. Mine - like millions of others - was good ol' Mickey D's. I have so many "fond" memories of the lovely golden arches, I could tell you stories for days. From drama inside the kitchen to secrets on the rooftop, I thought I'd start a little mini series called "CFAME". Confessions from a McDonald's Employee...maybe. Depends how this turns out.

Now this is going to include quite a few funny stories and dramatic twists and turns, you may get lost a few times. The best thing about having it on the blog though, you can always re-read the stories whenever you feel like.  I'm not going to be including any regular names and the location shall not be disclosed, to respect people's privacy.

I was about 16 years old when I lived in this semi-secluded region of a neighborhood, that bored a semi-busy town. Within walking distance, there was a McDonald's that I would quite often frequent - regardless of how unhealthy it was - to the point that when I turned 16 and wanted a job, I applied and was [obviously] then hired.

Upon my first days I was trained, taught, and placed in the front of the eatery as your cashier/server. After a while I got really good and then was put in the back (drive-thru), where I excelled even more. Friendly attitude, quick reflexes, and a weird ability to multitask like no one else. Perfect for the drive-thru lunch rush.

When you're working close to the managers office, can hear the cooks talking right next to you, and you're walking back and forth between the pie machine and register, you hear things. And see things. You know things.

I was a opening worker. Our McDonald's was not 24 hours so at 6am I would haul my exhausted butt into McDonald's and get everything started for the early birds that would come for their [most likely] senior coffees. I would do the front register, the drive-thru, and the runner (the person who gets the food ready). At times I'd be the cook too, but that was on rare occasions. Once things picked up and more workers cam in, I would go and strictly work in the drive-thru.

One morning I was opening up and doing my usual "to-do" list: make coffee, create a few burritos, warm up the grill, etc., when I overheard a very angry manager (we will call her Deena) yelling with someone that I couldn't quite make out. It wasn't until they barged in through our back door (one next to the manager's office, near the drive-thru register) that I realized it definitely was Deena and some guy. I couldn't really see him because our giant stock of buns were covering his face and I was stuck at the window taking orders, but I recognized the voice.

They were arguing about something that had happened the night before. Unfortunately this woman was talking in my ear asking a million and one questions about what a "McGriddle" was, so I couldn't really make out everything. At this point all I could make out was "her, pot roast, how could you", and "just wait". I imagined that there was some sort of dinner plans, pot roast maybe, the dude was caught cheating or something with a "her" and Deena was out for revenge.

Obviously I didn't go ask her after she stormed off what the whole yelling was about, but you can bet my curiosity had peaked! I knew she'd talk about it with her fellow manager Mindy (name has been changed), because they were close and talked about everything. All I had to do was make sure I was near them during break time or down time (when the crowds aren't so intense).

Fast forward to around 11am. The breakfast rush was over and we weren't quite into lunch rush just yet, but I seen Mindy and Deena walking towards each other. I knew this was it. The story was going to be spilled. Luckily they were talking near the back pantry, which shared a wall with the pie oven. All I had to do was pretend like I was cooking pies in the back and cautiously listen in. When Mindy and Deena get together, they are completely oblivious to the rest of the world.

After grabbing some pies from the freezer section and slowly waltzing over the pie machine, I placed each pie on the baking sheet one by one, as slow as humanly possible while listening in to the drama.

Deena: "I just couldn't believe him. I mean, who does something like that? I slaved all day to make that pot roast!"

Pause. I knew she didn't slave all day, she had gotten off at 5 pm the previous day. But I was right about pot roast being dinner.

Mindy: "I can't believe him. What did you say when he told you?!"
Deena: " I told him that he was out of his mind if he thought I would be ok with that. I threw him out of my house and slammed the door on his ass."
Mindy: "And he met you here at work this morning?! Girl, he must be freaking out!"
Deena: "I know! He kept asking me what was wrong and why I over reacted. ME! Over reacting! I never over react! I didn't slap him when he told me about his little side..."

Then someone calls her for managers assistance. Great. I go on, grab my pies and make my way back to the drive thru register. From this point I hadn't had any customers, but then things started to pick up and everyone was stuck doing their actual jobs.

Lunch rush is over and I immediately spring into action, because I know Mindy and Deena are aware of the slow down, which means more gossip to come! Within a few seconds of that thought, I see Mindy basically sprint to Deena in the back office to hear the rest of the story (I was already sure of it). This made things super easy for me, because I could just stand here and do my other side job (packing Happy Meal boxes with toys) while listening.

Mindy: "Ok so why didn't you slap him?"
Deena: "It wasn't worth it. I mean, he should've told me and all, but I can't change him. I accepted it and moved on."

Pause. You guys are thinking exactly what I thought. He has a side girl and Deena is ok with it. Yeah.

Mindy: "Wow. I don't think I could've been like you, I would've been pissed."
Deena: "Yeah well she's not too bad once you use her."

Pause. WHAT?!

Mindy: "I guess as long as you get to use her too, it's not such a bad thing."
Deena: "Exactly, but last night I was so mad because he went out with her all night, with his little friends, didn't come for dinner, and had the audacity to ask me why I was upset!"
Mindy: "Seriously?! He should've offered for you to at least come, but definitely should've just been home with you."

At this point shifts were beginning to change and Deena mentions that she's off now. Mindy gives her a hug and says she'd call her when she's off so they can talk more. I was so mad that I wouldn't be able to continue my sleuthing, but I knew more drama would follow.

After Deena had left, our store manager (the boss man, but not the BIG boss) came in looking really down. I said "Hey Matt (name has been changed), you doing ok?" only to be answered with a shocking "No not really."

I didn't really want to hear about his day, I'll be honest, but call me intrigued. My other drama duo left, so nothing else much to do.

Me: "What's up dude?"
Matt: "Me and the old lady got in a fight and it's just been rough."

Now mind you, Matt had gone on recently about how he had a new lady and things were awesome. He said we didn't know her, she was really cool, and hopefully someday he can bring her around. He was a laid back boss and I never thought anything of it. Until today.

Me: "Oh that sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that."

It's at this exact moment that I click what just happened.

Me: "Are things going to be ok?"
Matt: "I don't really know. I mean, I apologized even though I'm not sure what I did wrong. She seemed so happy."

Matt has always been an over sharer, so I knew with a few questions he'd spill his entire guts.

Me: "What happened?"

Yup. I got straight to the point.

Matt: "Well, I got home last night from going for a midnight cruise with my friends and she was really pissed. I guess she made my favorite dinner special for me and I missed it. I told her I was going riding with them, but she was still really mad. She kicked me out to my place and then this morning she just yelled at me more."
Me: "Oh. You were just riding around? Maybe she's just upset that you didn't let her know you were with your friends?"

I was a little confused, because he hadn't mentioned cheating but I figured maybe he didn't want that to get out.

Matt: "Yeah, she got all mad because I was with her..."

There it is.

Me: "Her?"
Matt: "Yeah, my car. I started working on her a while back. She's a classic so I decided to go ahead and ride with a few other guys who have classic cars. My girl got upset and told me she'd get revenge on my car. I mean, I love my girl, but I'm really scared for my car."

Ohhhhh. "Her" was his car, "just wait" was indeed revenge, and....our store manager is dating a regular shift manager. That right there, is a HUGE "no-no", but since my boss didn't know what I knew, he didn't have a reason to fear.

I ended the conversation with "I have an order, sorry" and we went on with our days. It wasn't until a few weeks later, that EVERYONE found out these two were dating. The fact that they were dating was huge grounds for firing both of them, but it wasn't NEARLY as bad as HOW everyone found out.

Want to know what happens? Check in next time for another CFAME!

Let me know what you guys think about this segment and whether or not you enjoyed my small storytime. I actually really like storytimes and thought about doing some more. I just don't want to bore all of you, so let me know what you think!

Until next time Jedi's, may the force be with you all.

Windows From H*LL.

Oh man you guys, today has been filled with drama, exhaustion, and daunting tasks that I truly don't wish to ever repeat.

For the past few months it's been known in our complex, that all the window would be replaced. This in itself can cause anxiety, because it not only means strangers will be coming into your house by the handful, but it also means that your home will no longer be orderly - or however it normally is, no judgement here. It means that your home will be filled with chaos, loud noise, and a really agitated momma. At least with me.

Around 7:30 am I had to wake up, get my padawan ready for the day, cook breakfast, clean up, take down the curtains, make sure things were "as requested" by the maintenance crew and the landlord - furniture away from the wall for example, and then go about my day while a group of 4 to 5 grown men parade through my house, breaking windows out and installing new ones.

I know this probably isn't a huge deal to a lot of people and it's probably an easy going task for most to overcome, but for someone who has severe anxiety it's a freaking nightmare.

I knew this day was coming. I knew the exact day. I also knew the exact time. I still wasn't prepared.

People began walking on my carpet WITH their shoes on - germaphobe here, how ya doin - carrying these big ol' windows to and from the rooms, men were going in and out of mine and my son's bedroom, and my bathroom became a dusty mess.

Do you have any idea how much anxiety someone like me gets when they literally watch their home become filthy, without me being able to really do anything about it? It's TORTURE!

I went the entire day trying to not think too much into it, but as soon as I got home and finished dinner, it was KILLING me inside. Want to know the worst part? It's after 10 pm right now and I STILL haven't gotten to vacuum!

Things got in the way, life took a few turns, and before I knew it, it was time for bed. I'm sitting in my living room staring at the carpet, contemplating pissing off my downstairs neighbors with the vacuum...no I'm not a cruel person. We all need peace and sleep. I do know however that I'm going to be setting my alarm early and vacuuming as soon as time permits.

Really it's just good manners to not start before 10 am, so I try my best to abide by that "policy". Even if most don't.

All I know now is, I'm going to have to deal with this dirty carpet until 10 am and make the best of this situation for now. So I will be cleaning up the bathroom, showering, and hitting the sack.

Goodnight Jedi'!

The Lego Batman Movie: Review and First Impression!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your weekend has been filled with fun and decadent eats.

This past Saturday my padawan and I were taken to the movies by my mom and stepdad, to see The Lego Batman Movie! It was a highly anticipated film for my mini me and I was intrigued to see if it would be the same scripted quality as the original Lego Movie.

For those of you pondering my thoughts on the Lego Movie, it wasn't necessarily my cup of tea and it didn't really keep my son's attention, but it wasn't a horrible flop like many cartoon movies can be.

My stepdad and mom took us to the first matinee on Saturday and kindly supplied the drinks and popcorn. We arrived just in time, found prime seating in the comfortable movie theater, and plopped down ready to [hopefully] be given a few laughs for the next 2 hours and 9 mins.

SIDE NOTE: I will not be including any spoilers.

The entire movie was based around - you guessed it - Lego Batman. The plot surrounds around Batman and his inability to face his one true fear in life, despite him saying otherwise. He struggles with the idea of ever having a family, while still needing to maintain his persona as the superhero Gotham City has always known.

After Joker decides to play the main bad guy - typical, but not predictable per se - Batman has to right his wrongs and ban together with the least likely of characters, to save Gotham City and the ones he's grown "fond" of.

The story also gives you a little insight into the background of Robin and how he came into Batman's life. It does allow you to gain a character bond with Robin, but it is called the "Batman Movie", so the story isn't completely surrounding him.

In the end you're not given any sort of cliffhanger as a potential opening for a possible future film, but with Lego having an infamous amount of plausible stories using any number of superhero's - or Lego characters - they have created, it's not outrageous to say that another film similar to this style could be made in the future.

There is a Lego Ninjago Movie coming out this year, but it doesn't seem to be of similar style. More so on the "action" and "serious" side, as opposed to this style which is "comical" and "silly".

My padawan was hooked throughout the whole movie and we were able to get quite a few belly laughs in. I wasn't captivated like I have been with say "The Secret Life of Pets" or "Moana", but the movie itself was a laid back kids-comedy.

I don't really recommend this film as an adult movie to watch, have a good time, and get a few laughs, but I do recommend it as a kids movie. However, that being said, I don't think it's worth going to the theaters for. While it was funny, it's more of a "Redbox Rental" than a "Movie Theater Ticket" type of film. Although, it may be harder to keep the kiddos intrigued in the film at home.

I don't regret going to the theaters at all - I had a great time in fact - I just don't recommend paying a hefty price for this movie ticket. If your theater has a movie deal or you have a coupon, I'd use them.

Out of 5 stars, I give it a 3. Very similar in style to the original Lego Movie, but not completely a flop either. My padawan did enjoy the film and that is all that matters!

Food Feature Friday #17: Dozens of Donuts in San Diego!

Found HERE
I'm a breakfast person. I absolutely love breakfast in all it's many forms: bagels, pastries, eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, fruit, and donuts. As long as I have a cup of coffee, perhaps even a glass of orange juice, I could eat morning delights all day long. There's just something about a delectable meal served first thing in the morning, that sets the entire day in a promising mood.

Today my padawan and I decided to go out and try finding a donut store that's been buzzing around our town. It's been talk that there are a few really unique donut shops around our neck of the woods, but there was one in particular that apparently was "good yet not par with the others". I like playing advocate for the underdog, so I took it upon myself to venture into the supposedly "not par" donut shop and experience their eatery for myself.

The particular donut shop I put to the test is called "Donut Factory".

After waking up and officially deciding that today was a donut day, we made our way to the semi-infamous Donut Factory, to see if it would suffice in my craving for custard filled mini cakes.

It's neatly tucked away in a lot that also acts as parking for a mechanic store, but it isn't hidden by any means, as they have a sign big enough to see from either angle.

The appearance and first impression of this eatery, was clean, well-kept, and very well stocked. I could immediately see the wide variety of donuts behind the glass wall, along with a decently sized menu hung up above.

So far, I'm very very intrigued.

After seeing all the breakfast sandwiches lined up neatly on a grid of excellence, I opted to try one of their creations - not extremely "unique" or "out there" - to see the quality of their sandwiches along with the cakes I was about to devour.

I chose a ham, egg, cheese croissant. Within about 5 minutes, the kind lady behind the donut wall came out from the back of the store with my sandwich.

I know how sketchy that may have sounded, but it's really not. I promise.

The croissant was very fresh and buttery, with an exquisite soft consistency. The egg, ham, and cheese were all portioned perfectly, creating the ideal meat-to-cheese-to egg ratio in every bite, every single time. The sandwich was a superb hit, even as a simple serving. It hit the spot for a hearty breakfast, but I still wanted to taste the sweet end of the Donut Factory. After all, that's what I really went for.

Prior to ordering our sandwiches, we went ahead and picked out a select few - some were doubled - to taste test.

They didn't have any crazy flavors or eccentric collection of donuts, but it wasn't your "plain Jane", "run of the mill" donut shop either. Some of the "different" styled donuts they had to offer however, were the fruity pebbles sprinkled donuts and the oreo sprinkled donuts. Both made it into our pink box.

Overall we went with 8 donuts - no we didn't get a full dozen, sorry - which were: 1 chocolate bar, 1 fruity pebbles sprinkled donuts, 1 sugar donut, 1 oreo sprinkled donut, 1 maple bar, 2 custard filled chocolate icing donuts, and 1 apple fritter (small).

First off, let me say that their custard is mouthwatering. It's rich, creamy, flavorful, and the perfect example of what custard should be. Almost every bite gave me a sweet spot of custard filling, making the portions - once again - perfect.

As for the rest, the "simple" donuts were delicious, but not necessarily different from other donut shops. I will say that it definitely tastes homemade - compared to "factory made ones" - and it was freshly gooey. I do like these better than my donut shop across the street, but haven't necessarily compared these simplistic lovelies to another hyped donut shop around here. That's coming soon!

The "different" donuts - oreo and fruity pebbles - were pretty much the same scrumptious quality as the "simple" donuts. I love how the fruity pebbles nor the oreo, overwhelms the donut itself. The breading is soft and decadent just as everything else and the frosting was a nice thin layer, but not transparent either.

I don't think these donuts are far beyond the rest, nor do they compare to the style of donuts I've seen - and heard - sold around (like the nutella donuts), but they are a step up from the donut shop that perhaps you go to, just because it's close. Personally I will be going back to this shop, because not only did I get donuts that I find to be worth it, but the service was also far beyond what I've experienced at some other shops. Those folks need coffee in their life...or change.

Regardless I will be venturing out to find the king of donuts - yes I'm making it my quest to taste donuts - but for right now, this isn't the crown winner. It's definitely not a loser and will consistently be receiving my funds, but I don't think it's above and beyond.

If you're looking for a donut that's above average, not too crazy, and perhaps a smoothie or sandwich to join your sweet cake, then I definitely recommend Donut Factory in San Diego, CA. If you're looking for the nutella donuts or ice cream sandwich donuts, stay tuned to see what I find!

Happy Friday Jedi's! Stay safe and if you're in Cali (or anywhere experiencing a severe storm), stay dry and warm! I know we will be headed to check out the newest Lego Batman movie tomorrow - weather permitting, so cross your fingers - but besides that we will be relaxing. I hope you guys have a ton of fun and if you have any requests of donut shops (or any eateries) you'd like me to try, let me know down in the comments below or on social media. Much love everyone.

Pokemon Go Update: 80 New Finds and Rare Pokemon Becoming Common!

In the past I've discussed the infamous game that I'm sure many of you have seen or experienced yourself. I'm of course talking about Pokemon Go.

Recently I did a review about mobile games that I personally felt were worth playing (check out that post HERE) and Pokemon Go was one of the games I talked about. Now, my initial review for Pokemon Go (see that post HERE) was done in a separate post, but the recent review is an updated version.

In a nutshell, Pokemon Go is the virtual game of the 1996 Pokemon card collecting game (1997/1998 TV Show) that took the world by storm. It gave the older generation Pokemon lovers - like myself - and the newer generation Pokemon lovers - like my padawan - the chance to go out and "catch" their very own Pokemon with their mobile devices - tablets, cellphones, iwatches, etc. You won't just find all the Pokemon in one region of the county, which should entice you to go out and check out new areas - please be careful regardless - in search of the "harder to find" Pokemon, creating the ultimate Pokemon collection, thus gaining a [personal] title of "greatest trainer ever"! For us it has become a motivation of exercise and exploration with my young one, giving us the opportunity to bond while nonchalantly getting a mini-workout.

There had been word around the fire that Niantic/Nintendo was going to release a new update within the week - expected more towards the 18th - but when my App Store gave a notification that Pokemon Go had an update ready to download, I knew this was what I was waiting for.

This update had given the players the opportunity to evolve Pokemon into newer evolution's (Eevee for example, has more evolution's) and new Pokemon altogether. We were also given new fruit to feed your Pokemon, with new bonus' around. One thing I had hoped with this update, was for "rarer" Pokemon - like Snorlax for example - to be a little more common. Perhaps Jinx, Snorlax, Lapras, and Farfetch'd would pop up every once in a while, instead of never. I will say that a lot more unique Pokemon have been popping out of 5 km eggs - and the 10 km eggs - than prior. This is from the last update though, not particularly this one.

After the download was complete, I waited for everything to load. As I was anticipating checking out what new Pokemon were [hopefully] close by, I quickly checked my email and found that I also got an email notification about the update.

In the email, it told that the newest release of Pokemon, generate around the "favorites" from Pokemon Silver and Pokemon Gold (1999), including Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile.

If you don't remember, these three Pokemon were the three you were able to choose from as your starting Pokemon in the Gold and Silver Nintendo games. Whether or not they will be just as difficult to find as the three original starter Pokemon's (Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle) is up for opinion, but as of right now I haven't found any of them. Although I've only been playing this update for a few hours now.

Upon starting our walk we were able to find 6 new Pokemon from the newest generation release, while my dad was able to capture 16 new ones today, proving it was a great day for Pokemon hunting. Personally I was able to find Sentret, Natu, Sunkern, Murkrow, Snubbull, and Slugma.

For those of you still looking for Togepi, I was able to find mine purely by hatching a 5 km egg. It wasn't anything special and it seems like this will be the only way - at least from what I've seen - you'll be able to find this adorable little egg Pokemon.

I will say that while the Pokemon are spawning at the Pokestops in higher quantities now, they are also spawning completely randomly down side streets, so no [safe] street should go un-walked.

With this newest update, I've also collected two new types of berries to help with the capturing of stubborn Pokemon. We were originally given one type of candy - the raspberry - to help the Pokemon fight the ball with less strength (in a way), but now we are given Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries.

The Nanab Berries are to "calm a Pokemon down, making it less erratic", which I'm not sure why it truly differs from the Razz Berries - perhaps even stronger "calming" effect? - but I intend on finding out.

The Pinap Berries are to "make a Pokemon drop more candy". So if you find a Pokemon that you desperately need multiples of to evolve - perhaps Magikarp to evolve into Gyarados - feed this berry to your chosen Pokemon in the midst of capturing it (before you through the Pokeball) and it should give you more berries for that particular Pokemon. Again, I haven't tested this specific berry out, but I do intend on it.

So far I think that the update has brought further buzz and excitement to the already popular game for generations spanning over 20+ years. I'm really glad to see ease being consistently downloaded with each update, helping with any sort of bugs, crashes, or Poke problems. I do hope to see more Pokemon spawning at the same rate they were today and that the "harder" Pokemon become less impossible to find, but for now I'm pleased that the update hasn't caused any downfall in my hope for the game. Knock on wood it doesn't change!

When we've played the game a little more and practiced with all the berries, I'll be sure to come back and do an update, along with a notation in the current post for the day.

As of now, I'm still a fan of Pokemon. I'm a little weary that they will expand to all 720 Pokemon, practically forcing us to battle in gyms like crazy (to get Pokecoins) or dish out actual cash to upgrade our Pokemon bag - where we store our cute creatures - but for now it seems to only expand to 240. That's still more than what our actual bag allows us to hold - 200 I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong - but for now I'm still excited about the endless adventures we're are about to embark on, to continue our quest of becoming the greatest Pokemon trainers!

A Sewing Subscription Box to Teach Your Padawans!!!

In the past I've shared with you guys a few of my sewing creations (a DIY personalized Jean Jacket, How to Hem, etc.). Well today I decided to share with you all a really neat subscription box that I think you might want to check out for yourself or your little padawans, if you're interested in learning the in's and out's of sewing!

Sew Surprised is a monthly sewing subscription box that allows you order monthly for any age group you desire. Every month focuses on a new lesson that builds on the last, allowing the subscribers to confidently learn how to sew with a sewing machine, like a pro. As you go, you're not only able to put your new skills to the test with a really cool project, but you are also given a secret code to watch a YouTube video that shows the project being completed! This allows you or the little one's, to follow along and see exactly how to complete your creations.

My son and I were given two boxes to test out, giving me the opportunity to see if it was truly beneficial to a young 5 year old. Well I'm here to give you the inside scoop on whether or not this box is truly worth it.

The first box was more of an introduction box, giving my son the supplies needed to get started. It came with fabric, notions, needles, and a few lessons on paper. This gave my son the opportunity to practice different angles, patterns, and stitches.

The second box was a little more intricate, with a really cool "hidden pocket pillow case" project. With his second box, he was able to put the skills he learned in box one and actually make something useful.

Being that this was his very first actual sewing project, I was utterly surprised with how well it all came out. He practiced hemming and sewing corners. This proved to be a lot more interesting to my little guy, but the first one was an anticipating box nonetheless.

It's been heard through the grapevine, that box one and two may soon be combined, giving kids the lessons, notions, goodies, AND project, the first time around. They don't want you to think that the first box (which is still pretty freaking cool) is all the subscription company has to offer.

With the videos playing alongside my padawan as he sewed - of course watching his hands (I was with him as well) - he seemed to really be able to grasp what he was doing. After he completed his project, he was so pleased with himself that he was immediately inspired to sew more and more.

I think it's a really incredible opportunity to teach young ones - or yourselves - how to sew. Sewing can also come in handy when it comes to homeschooling as well!

My son for example, has learned how to measure his own fabric (addition, subtraction, fractions, counting, ect.). Sewing is a great attribute for anyone to know, because then the possibilities are endless.

Personally I feel the lessons are well worth the simple cost of $25 per month (it gets cheaper if you subscribe for multiple months in a lump) and can teach my little guy far better than I ever could. In fact, even I am learning a thing or two about sewing.

With the ease of a lesson in a box, delivered to your door monthly, I don't see why you wouldn't want to try it out! It not only teaches your kiddos a really cool life skill that they could use for years to come, but you'll get neat projects out of it as well!

Interested in signing up for a sewing subscription with Sew Surprised, go ahead and click on any of the highlighted words or click HERE. P.S. if you already know how to sew and perhaps just want a little extra goodies galore, with fabric, patterns, and more, they have a really cool limited edition "Goodie Box" that you can order for only $10!

I'm in love with Sew Surprised and I truly think you would be too!!!

Valentine's Day: Mommy and Son Edition!

First off, I'd like to say Happy Valentine's Day to all you beautiful Jedi's. I hope you've had an absolutely splendid day.

Today my padawan and I went on a mini hike and educational tour, down at the Cabrillo National Monument here in Southern California. Personally I had never been - neither had my little guy - but I had heard lots of good things about the park itself. We lucked out though, because not only were we getting to experience something new, we went with my son's charter school and they had a park ranger show us around!

Let me just say now, our park ranger was thee coolest dude ever. He had special keys and granted us special behind-the-scenes access to the lighthouse basement, the lighthouse kitchen, and a super cool secret bunker.

Once we got to the gorgeous monument on top, we were greeted with a breath taking panoramic view of San Diego. We greeted the other kids and the educational facilitators that put this entire event together, then went on our way exploring the park with our awesome ranger.

After about two hours of a splendid tour, we took a mini hike around the mountain and then headed home.

Yes I'm aware that this wasn't a very long post today, but honestly I'm exhausted. We went grocery shopping afterwards, did a little more schooling, ate food in between, and now we are worn out. Which means that this momma and her padawan will be hitting the hay early.

I really hope you guys had an absolute wonderful day and I wish you all the best. Happy Valentine's Day from Momma and Mini Me.
