During the nighttime however, I tend to use my "mommy time" - while my munchkin man is sleeping away - for Netflix shows that are FAR from suitable for his precious eyes. For example, "Captive".
With a nice cup of hot tea, perhaps a scrumptious snack, and definitely a warm blanket to cozy up in during this frigid January nights, I love catching up on entertainment in the wee hours of the night. I will say that it's a constant battle however, to not watch until the crack of dawn. But alas, I am a mother and if I did that I'd probably become an actual zombie with a caffeine twitch. Not good.
If you haven't heard about "Captive", it's a Netflix documentary revolving around survivors who were once held captive for ransom. With interviews from the victims reliving their horrendous experience, Netflix did an awesome job showcasing the true horrors that are so seldom talked about. From coca-cola executive's to televised peacemakers, you're sure to get your dose of reality.
We may see kidnapping cases on TV and wish the best for those going through the nightmare, but we never truly see the underbelly of what goes on when the camera's aren't rolling.
I don't want to go into too many details, because I truly believe this is a show you should watch and experience for yourself, but I will say this: Each and every unique story will pull on your heart strings. Some will give you a truly happy ending, while others may [or may not] leave you in tears, wishing peace on the suffering.
After watching the ENTIRE series, I think that this series made a very real problem, public. I also think it instills hope in the human race. No I don't mean that the kidnappers are "heros", but if I say anymore it will spoil the entire thing.
Also, I'd like to make very clear that these stories are NOT identical. Each episode is truly individual and revolves around different types of "captivity". Some episodes, you'll even hear from the captors THEMSELVES! When diving into parts of the world that you probably will never experience, you'll be truly thankful for what you have and DON'T have.
To me, I'm intrigued by the unknown and I feel if you can learn the good AND bad that truly dwells on this Earth, you can truly be a better person with your everyday actions.
I recommend this series and would rate it 4 stars. That's a 1/2 point more than the Netflix rating it currently has. Why only 4 and not 5? Watch the show and you'll find out.
If you do watch it, I'd love to hear what you think of the season! Comment below or tag me in a post on social media! Happy Netflixing Jedi's!
